Let's Play a Game....

It is somewhat of a take on 'Who Would You Do', but not exactly. In the comments section, each person pick a movie locale or setting where you would like to have a few days to explore on your own. Basically pick a movie you’d like to hang around in for a week or two....kind of like a vacation.

Here are the rules. Pick ONE film and ONE specific setting. This can be any movie, and any time in history. We are assuming that you have money to spend in the movie setting/location. Of course, some movies have multiple settings, and some do not...but once a film has been taken, no other setting can be taken from that movie. Obviously, just like 'Who Would You Do’, try to give a reasonable justification for why you picked the movie and location you did. Once you pick a place, you must wait until at least one other person has gone before you can go again. I will go first….

I pick Hogwarts from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I think it would be AWESOME to hang out with Harry and the gang during their first year at Hogwarts. Not to mention, I would love to have my turn under the sorting hat.

Wow this is a tough one! Most movies I watch only reside in my short term memory for very brief time periods...making it difficult to remember which movies I really liked, let alone specific scenes...

Okay, I know, I want to be in the movie Singles, in the diner scene w/ Eddie Vedder (and the others, Jeff Ahment, Matt Dillon & some other guy...actually, I'd rather those 3 stay out of the scene..lol)

I know what you mean Kelley...it is super tough for me too since I am the Anti-movie person and never have time to watch any! I am going to go again since I have a chance:

I pick that movie that we girls saw together a long time ago. The Wedding Date. Specifically, the time spent with Dermot Mulroney in the boat parked in the front lawn with Maroon 5's "Secret" playing in the background. NICE!

Hmm...this is a tough one...I don't think I think of movies in terms which would allow me to easily remember where I would like to insert myself...I feel them very viscerally, very briefly, and like most of my day to day life very little of it makes it into long term storage...even the netflix top 100 list, nothing jogged my mental elbow...you're 'let's play a game' did make me think of Saw...which is completely useless in this situation...this game requires too much imaginative creativity combined with excellent recall, of which I have neither.

Alright, enough with the excuses:

The secret beach in The Beach, when they very first find it...I love stunning scenery, preferably quite warm and sunny...

So are you saying that I can't pick 2 settings from the same movie? Because I would like to be at the Mad Hatter's tea party but I would also like to be playing croquet with the Queen of Hearts.

I think that counts as two turns...

I wouldn't mind living at that idyllic villa from ancient Rome from out of Gladiator, early in the movie before all those terrible things happen...just like The Beach come to think of it...

Oh, you reminded me of another one Garrett. That house where the woman lives in Under the Tuscan Sun

I like that Heaven from WDMC, that is a hard one to top...

I hate to say this, but the terrible dork in me would be slighted if I didn't mention Star Wars, Star Trek or LOTR...I'll go with Star Trek just because it is probably the least dark of the three.

The scene would probably be from early in ST:IV when they were on Vulcan trying to get their stolen Klingon ship running again.

I am such a terrible dork...

I want to be in Rivendell with the elves.

WDMC was the first movie I thought of...but I could only think of the sad depressing scenes, so I didn't pick it. Also, The Beach was the second movie I thought of...because of the beautiful beach, but I didn't pick that because I didn't want people to think I have a thing for DiCapprio.

Geez, I'll have to think for awhile to come up with something else.

Yes you're a dork Garrett...ha

I figured since I had a few days to explore on my own, I wouldn't have to hang out with DiCapprio the whole time, what with the massive sexual tension and all...

Alright, I did ST, now I'll do SW:

I'd like to hang out with Han Solo on his ship, running guns and drugs, fighting off imperial interdictors and shooting people in bar fights, for a week...I mean, seriously! I don't like dogs, so I can take or leave Chewbacca...

I'd like to hang out with Han Solo on his ship too...or anywhere.

I'd forgotten about the name of the city but I loved the " Flavor" of it onscreen....

"Seductive and full of mystery, with a haunted past and a spellbinding face— Savannah is a city full of drama, a true southern belle sure to steal the show. Voodoo magic and deep-rooted history attract film scouts here where evocative scenery provides an unforgettable and compelling backdrop. Savannah snags the lead in Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil (1997), a film that was as much about the city itself as the characters. Savannah's gardens, grand old homes, wacky vagabonds, rich aristocrats, and Old South idiosyncrasies are perfectly poised for the silver screen."

Did anyone else see it and want to visit? C'mon Garrett you know that you want to gawk at the wild trannies and other eccentrics there!

Runner up mention for "in Brad Pitt/Achille's tent in Troy" (you know what scene I mean!

I loved Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and I soooooo want to go to Savannah!

Savannah? That movie, unfortunately, bored the shit out of me...but I believe I was mainly paying attention to the characters and completely ignored the scenery! I like the idea of interesting places, but the idea of crowds of people...well, the elitist bastard in me finds it distasteful..

---

Ok, last up: LOTR. Since everyone else has skyped (someone I know takes the word 'sniped' which is used to describe 'stealing' something via last minute bidding on eBay with the word for a popular VOIP app) LOTR from under me, I'd instead take a mental scene from The Hobbit, but they haven't made a movie of that yet (a HELL of a book for a imaginative two or three year old to have read to them).

So...I'd spend a week with Faramir in the rank and overgrown wasteland east of the Anduin...hunting, ambushing, patrolling, and other gay man-on-man shit...

Midnight in the Garden made we want to go to Savannah too but all reports I've gotten are that it is a filthy city.

Garrett you get dorkier with each entry :)

This time, I'll take the scene in the Matrix where they learn skills by simply installing cartridges and then experiencing those things in their mind: self explanatory.

Word.
